About Aletia

My sister first told me "Once you have a Golden, you'll never want another breed."  She gave me my first Golden, named Lady, and I finally knew what she meant.  I completely fell in love with the breed and don't think I will ever have another breed.  Goldens are faithful, loyal, loving, and want to learn, they want to please their human.  You just have to figure out simple training techniques to help them learn what you want.

I believe you should not breed without doing all the health testing on a potential breeding dog.  Breeders should be trying to improve the breed with good hips, hearts, eyes, and genetic screening, to avoid producing pups that have health problems.  Having health problems can make a pup not live a full, healthy life.  While we cannot guarantee a pup will live to be 13+ years old, we don't want them passing entirely too young.  This is why quality breeders do so many expensive health clearances.  You might also notice that some of my females have been retired pretty early into their breeding years.  Some females have excellent health clearances, but may still have difficult pregnancies or deliveries.  If I see a problem with my girls in this way, I may retire them early.  They still are my household pets, my babies, and I won't breed them if it is hard on them.

Puppy Love

Raising pups can be the most rewarding experience.  I love having a litter of love in my living room for 8 weeks. I get to know these little fluff balls of sweetness as I prep them for their forever homes.

Breeding

This picture shows what it means to be a breeder. This is me after several nights, staying next to my girl while she is in labor.  We ended up doing an emergency c-section with the most wonderful veterinarian.  I am holding 9 beautiful babies while momma is being cared for by the vet.  My husband and I took each baby from the vet, making sure each was breathing and getting dried off and warmed up.  I am exhausted, yet crying, because all the babies survived and are doing well.  They are crawling into my sweatshirt for warmth.
